Don’t You Folks Read Your Bible?

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Dr. John Mitchell, the founder of Multnomah University use to say the above to his students during his classes.  Dr. Mitchell’s knowledge of the word was amazing, and he regularly quoted whole books from memory.  The funny thing is, Dr. Mitchell didn’t have a memorization plan.  His recall was simply developed by regularly spending time in the Word.  On Sunday we encouraged everyone to again consider at the beginning of a new year to endeavor to read God’s word.  Over the years I have personally tried to read through the Bible on a consistent and regular basis, and know that my own walk with the Lord has been enhanced by this effort.  If you would like a plan to help – consider the one found in our bulletins this last Sunday.  If the whole Bible seems a bit overwhelming (you’ve heard stories of Leviticus), then consider one of the many plans at this site.  Maybe just read through the Psalms regularly over the course of the year, or try to get through the New Testament.  Maybe you need to start at small, and determine to simply read through a gospel like Mark or John.  I know that when we seek to make God a priority and listen to him through his word we will be blessed.
