Over the last few months we have been working through the book of 1 Thessalonians where we have made an effort to note the ways that the church is God’s gospel community. 1 Thessalonians as John Stott noted is showing, “how the gospel creates the church, how the church spreads the gospel, and how the gospel shapes the church, as the church seeks to live a life that is worthy of the gospel.” I love that thought because it reinforces how closely the church is tied to the proclamation of the gospel.
This morning in my skimming through the blogosphere, I came across a post that I thought aptly reinforced the idea we’ve been discussing on Sunday mornings. There is a telos – a purpose or goal – to the gospel, and that purpose at some level is the church! My prayer is that FBC would not simply know the gospel of Jesus in an intellectual way, but that we would become a gospelized community.
